Thank You

Even in these times, good things are happening. You just have to look around and notice. Unemployment and foreclosures are on the rise, but so are resources to help families.

About three years ago when Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation became a public #charity everyone was excited about getting out there and creating change. For me, I was amazed by the outpouring of support by people with open hearts that came forward and wanted to help. Teenagers to retired folks stepped forward and asked “How can I help.”

It has not been an easy road to travel but never giving up is paying off in ways I can’t put into words. This organization exists to help low-income families with basic needs like food. It is the neighbor down the street that donates food,  the Foundation that donates money, the others that give items that are so needed to help with the end result.

Thoughts and Actions

 

Overtime things change and change is good. It makes you look ahead and think of all the possibilities. I use to tell people if you don’t like your life do something about it. People can do great things when they are driven. That comes from inside of each of us. It is a power that is created from past experiences, thoughts and actions. We all have this power. The question is why do some people know how to tap into it.

First you have to believe in yourself, after all if you don’t who will. It is really hard out there, and I know lots of people that have been wealthy, then poor and got back to building their wealth. They know they can do it.

Surround yourself with positive people. The energy is good and the ideas are even better. When you have an upbeat attitude you are like a magnet that draws in more positive people.

Be a leader, someone has to take the role. Don’t give up… just figure it out.

Think and take action. You never get anywhere unless you are willing to try.

Most important LISTEN CAREFULLY, you learn. Build on what you hear. Be open to new ideas. Imagine all the possibilities.

You are Noticed

As I go about my day, our paths cross.  I have food and you don’t. I have a place to live and your address is on the streets.

I saw you tonight as you collected your pop cans from your shopping cart to go inside of McDonalds. You checked many times that you had your cans and you took them inside. I took money from my purse and wrote you a note, it said have a nice evening.

I parked next to your car and saw you were living out of it with ice coolers and sleeping bags. I know I am your voice. I can try to help change things. Please understand……I am trying.

Acts Of Kindness

ACTS OF KINDNESS….. Today I went shopping to get a few things. When I was in the check out line, my daughter asked several times the same question, “What are you thinking about?” I was deep in thought thinking about the couple two people in front of me. They were a couple that had a several children and when they took their groceries though the check out their method of payment was declined. Whatever method of payment they were using was not an option. I watched the woman put her head in her hands like to cry “You have to be kidding.” I know they were hungry. The manager of the store escorted them to customer service desk and they left the store, their food left in the shopping cart. I asked the manager why, she said they left their food stamp card at home, I told her I had asked because I wanted to help. She was taken back. Gut feeling, their card was declined. The despair was so sad. This family went home hungry tonight.

Living Tomorrows Dreams

You know who you are as a person. You get up each day and go to work come home, cook a meal and talk to friends. Your life is pretty much do as you please. The TV is a place you are engulfed in as it passes the lonely moments of time.

Then there is a time you meet a special person in your life that you both are talking to each other all the time. You can’t wait to get home to this person after work you are now in love. You shut out all your friends and family because you are bonding with your new love. It feels so right in so many ways.

Then there may be mention of having a baby on the way, you think I am not ready for this. YOUR RIGHT YOU ARE NOT READY. The thought of entrapment comes to mind. You talk to people you care about and listen to what they say, you know they are right but instead you move forward and try to create a family of love with a person you don’t even know.

Several years later it all ends in a very bad place. Just another broken home. You think I wish I had listened to all those people who I know really loved me and tried to give guidance. Now it is too late.

There are large sums of money going out to attorneys, court dates, custody battles and mistrust. You now hate the person who gave birth to your child.

Choose your life’s crossroads very carefully because they define who you are in the long run.

You do not have to rush your dreams; they will always be there for you. All in the right time, good things will come to those who wait.

I sat on my front my porch this sunny afternoon looking into his piercing green eyes. They were surrounded by wrinkles marked by years of living. He spoke slowly but with deliberate thought to each of my questions. The conversation saddened me.

In his younger years there had been success and wealth that was long gone. Now each day was a struggle with a table inside of his home filled with bills. He was overwhelmed. That was only the beginning.

He was caring for his sick wife who was frail and had fallen often. Broken bones, cuts and could no longer hear or speak clearly. Unfortunately in this equation was a sister that had moved in.

She steals keepsakes from the household and breaks things. She manipulates the sick wife and steals money from their assets.

The police came to their door twice this week, he is ashamed of the bruises and scratches he is enduring. He still loves his sick wife and is trying to provide a good home.

As he walks behind the lawn mower each week it is amazing he can still push it forward. He is drowning in life, life growing old. Proud, so darn proud, he will not ask for help.

Today, I told him there are people who really do care about him. If he needs help knock at my door and I will do what it takes to help him.

His eyes were filled with pride, his sagging skin he had earned that through the many years. They had no children, no one to reach out to, just a caring neighbor who took time to listen.

Today, I heard an experience of elder abuse first hand. So domestic violence knows no age boundaries.

　

　

HAVE YOU MADE YOUR LIST

The are some people out there that are single, looking for their soul mate. It seems that some things are just common sense however after talking with many single hopefuls I have decided to makes some lists. The first list is called RED FLAGS. As you read these don’t laugh they are true. If your dating prospect demonstrates any of the following traits run.

RED FLAGS

1. They fall in love with you at first sight.
2. They tell you they were abused as a child or raised in a violent household.
3. They call or text all the time.
4. They demand you spend all your free time with them.
5. They punch walls or throw things.
6. They know the inside of the local courthouse a little to well.
7. The mood angry comes after their bowl of Cheerios in morning.
8. They have a rap sheet.
9. They lie.
10. Their home or car in totally trashed.
11. They follow you to your place of employment.
12. They threaten to hurt the people you love if you try to leave.
13. They abuse drugs or alcohol.

Remember a healthy relationship takes time to grow and should be based on mutual respect. Relationships are like houses; they take time to build but only moments to tear down.

Interesting Book

Recently, I read a book that I think everyone may find interesting. The name of the book is Fast Food published by Green Haven Press. With so many people not having enough of their basic needs met this book will make you rethink getting a quick bite out to eat. It is a quick read. I hope you enjoy it.

THE WALL

 

　

It is the thing that protects us, it keeps us safe and sane. It protects us from everything out there that tries to tear every fiber inside of us apart.

Like a cement block, we stack them one by one around us in a circle to keep us protected. The wall helps us shut out all the ugly and bad out. We now become numb. We lose who we really are.

The wall will come and go. There will times we will no longer need the wall, because we have moved on and heal.

I am here to tell you that wall will follow you for the rest of your life. Every time you feel betrayed or hurt. THERE IS YOUR WALL.

The wall will keep you safe but you will loose moments in time that matter.

Life is to live, you may fail, and hurt or cry but you need to experience those moments. Trust, TRUST yourself, live every moment. Fail or Succeed…at least you are experiencing life.

YOU HAVE ONE SHOT AT IT.

Time goes by quickly and then you die, so while you are on this earth living and breathing, LIVE LIFE OUTSIDE YOUR WALLS.
